Job Description Summary

The System Engineer (m/f/d) is responsible for technology integration in projects and systems that have both enterprise software and electromechanical (hardware / embedded software) components. The Staff Systems Engineer is an advanced practitioner in their field, driving system-level definition, design, and testing for robotic systems through close collaboration with hardware design, software, and other functional groups.

Staff Systems Engineer

In recent years, Medication Management Solutions (MMS) has built on this history through a significant expansion into the high-growth pharmacy automation space and is now one of the global leaders in pharmacy automation. The Pharmacy Automation platform positions BD to offer our pharmacy customers a more comprehensive set of thoughtful, connected care technologies as they expand care to new settings, centralize their pharmacy operations and own the charge in addressing some of the biggest challenges facing the industry, including health care worker burnout and the global clinician shortage. BD's Pharmacy Automation portfolio covers a wide range of hardware and software technologies from storage and dispensing robots, vision solutions, pouch packagers, vial filling systems, blister card production systems as well as central fill solutions and enterprise pharmacy management software solutions.

BD is searching for a Staff Systems Engineer to join this rapidly expanding team as a technical leader & contributor. System Engineers are characterized by their disciplined, quantitative approach to system and technology integration as well as diverse cross-functional backgrounds and general knowledge of related disciplines. These individuals deploy tools and processes such as Design for Six Sigma and product development processes (waterfall, Agile) within a quality management system to enable more predictable product development and high quality/value products. System Engineers are responsible for technology integration in projects and systems that have both enterprise software and electromechanical (hardware / embedded software) components. The Staff Systems Engineer is an advanced practitioner in their field, driving system-level definition, design, and testing for robotic systems through close collaboration with hardware design, software, and other functional groups.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practical, and consistent with objectives. Exercises latitude in determining technical objectives of the assignment methods and in selecting techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining resolution based on risk-based assessment (including dFMEA analysis and input into product Hazard Analysis).
* Contributes to the completion of specific programs/projects and develops work plans to reduce concept to design.
* Owns derivation & test of product requirements and high-level design system and subsystem specifications. This includes derivation from user needs, writing, tracing, characterizing, and verifying specification performance.
* Assumes a technical contributor role and works closely with other functional groups. Will provide guidance and work direction to cross-functional team members including mechanical engineers, reliability engineers, software developers, and software test.
* Independently evaluates problems of high complexity and applies analytical/scientific principles to fulfill project and business objectives. Designs and performs development activity independently with minimal supervision.
* Development of detailed subsystem workflow step and exception logic to guide software in development of instrument functions as well as to inform Theory of Operation for product/solution.
* Collects, records, analyzes, interprets, reports and presents results to cross functional colleagues and leaders.
* Responsible for employing DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) and product development best practices to manage technical risk and impart product robustness and reliability.
* Leads system verification and validation activities for their cross-functional project team including: protocol writing, execution and reporting.
* Contributes to the transition from R&D to manufacturing/service and supports system troubleshooting activities for products in the field.
* Liaison between R&D and Quality/Reliability functions to inform/support functions based on quality procedures including risk analysis, verification/validation for specific subsystems.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

* Must have a bachelor's degree in science or engineering.
* B.S.: 5+ years of experience in technical area
* M.S.: 2+ years of experience in technical area
* Ph.D.: 0+ years of experience in technical area
* Experience with Systems Engineering and requirements management, including:
* Demonstrated capability with requirement/specification management
* Systems integration and testing, Failure Modes Effects Analysis, verification & validation
* Experimental design, data acquisition, graphical analysis and use of statistical methods for large complex data sets. Experience implementing Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies.
* Beta-testing, and/or field implementation of new product launches preferred.
* Reliability management (e. g. Acelerated Life Time Testing) would be a plus
* Ability to work independently and as a member or leader of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Ability to communicate concepts, ideas and knowledge effectively and clearly to other individuals and teams.
* Experience operating in at least 1 product development process: waterfall or agile; experience operating within design control.
* Understanding of, or experience working in, outpatient, retail, and/or central pharmacy would be a differentiator.

This position may require up to 20% domestic/international travel. This position is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days/week in office and allowing up 2 days/week remote work.

According to the collective bargain agreement the minimum annual salary for this position is EUR 59,010 p.a. (IT KV, St1, Erfahrungsstufe). Based individual skills and experince, we offer appropriate additional payment.
